Fraudsters are using Qantas branding to harvest personal information, underscoring the growing risk attached to high-value loyalty ecosystems. First flagged in August 2025, Qantas maintains it will never request PINs, passwords or one-time codes via email or SMS.

Virgin Australia's Velocity Frequent Flyer warned in its annual report that its frequent flyer program could take a hit if the RBA’s proposed interchange changes were implemented. Qantas Frequent Flyer argue they have an advantage in having 33 direct earning credit cards with banks compared to Virgin's 9. Qantas are "80% direct earn". Their members booked 15% more rewards seats in the 2025 calendar year and 10% more international upgrades last year.
